The role of the Data Governance Function

Alan D. Duncan is Director of Data Governance at University of New South Wales, Australia. An evangelist for information and analytics as enablers of better business outcomes, he was named by Information-Management.com in their 2012 list of “Top 12 Data Governance gurus you should be following on Twitter”.

His latest blog post offers a personal view of the role of the Data Governance Function.  As a software company we’d agree that you shouldn’t rely on technology to make data governance successful – technology needs to be an enabler to the people and processes.

As Alan explains in his blog, others will no doubt offer other perspectives. But his brief outline will help prompt some thinking about what purpose you want Data Governance to fulfil within your organisation.
